One day, just before teatime, Fritz the Gnome decided to explore the world beyond the garden.
On his way, he met his friend Holtzemer who gave him some advice about the outside world. He also told him to hook up with a group of travelling musicians called "Browne Jenkyn", for they would take care of him.
Then he went to say goodbye to Uncle Arbuckle and Aunt Hilda. Uncle Arbuckle (of the shiny face) warned Fritz about the large metallic machines with rubber wheels piloted by humans. They are very dangerous, especially when the driver presses a small black device against their ear. Aunt Hilda gave Fritz some food and Gnomish ale for his journey. He thanked them and moved on.
At the edge of the garden, he saw some of his friends. When he told them where he was going, they told him to take lots of pictures of the places he went and the people he met.
And so, Fritz began his adventure beyond the garden.
